NEW WORKS

Avant Chamber Ballet announces its spring program with two performances to be held on June 8th at the Montgomery Arts Theater at Booker T. Washington High School in Dallas, TX and June 9th at the Eisemann Center in Richardson, TX. The program includes three new works by Artistic Director Katie Puder. The ballets will feature all live chamber music by violinist Eunice Keem and French horn David Cooper, both from the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and returning to play with ACB for the third time, pianist Cary Chow from Vancouver, Canada.

In a new step towards the goal of collaborating and combining dance and live music, ACB has commissioned a score from young and exciting composer, Chase Dobson. In this ballet, “Faces of the Sun”, the choreography and music explore our daily life cycle and what compels us forward. Chase, a rising senior at Booker T Washington HSPVA has just been named Composer in Residence for ACB.

There are two additional world premiere ballets on the program. “Bewegt” echoes the clean and dramatic tone of the music by Hindemith with neoclassical choreography and costumes. “Ravel Trio” is an expression of the three sides of the Ravel sonata for violin and piano: melodic and romantic, clever and flirty, daring and exciting.

And for the first time, Avant Chamber Ballet is presenting the dramatic solo “Lorelei” – inspired by the legendary siren of the Rhine - danced by Michele Gifford, formerly of the New York City Ballet, with choreography by Elizabeth Gillaspy.
